Imperial yacht "Standart"

The pages of the magazines in this series provide information about the yachts of Russian emperors and royal sailing ships, famous sailors and designers, interesting facts from the history of navigation, descriptions of ancient navigation methods and a lot of other fascinating information. In addition, each magazine in the series comes with high-quality parts for assembling a model of the imperial yacht “Standard” on a scale of 1:130.

Story

The yacht “Standart” was created at a shipyard in Denmark by order of Nicholas II, and was distinguished by its special comfort and excellent seaworthiness. She was the emperor's favorite yacht and was recognized as the best among similar vessels all over the world. It received its name in honor of the flag of the head of state, which was customary to hang over the place he visited. This custom appeared in medieval Europe and emphasized the power of monarchs. When Nicholas II was on the yacht, a standard of golden silk rose above it, depicting nautical charts and a black double-headed eagle.

"Standard" brilliantly played the role of a representative ship for official receptions and visits, participated in special events, and was used for summer sea cruises. Although the yacht was a delightful “floating palace,” members of the imperial family especially valued it not for its amazing comfort and luxury, but for the opportunity to temporarily hide from prying eyes, government duties and court etiquette. On board their favorite, the Romanovs could simply be parents and children relaxing in a narrow family circle. “Standart” became for them a kind of “oasis” of human relations, where they could free themselves from officialdom, play, have fun and enjoy life.
